The Cold Bokkeveld meteorite is a rare carbonaceous chondrite from the asteroid belt between\u00a0 Mars and Jupiter. Cold Bokkeveld is a breccia that was altered by water on its parent asteroid; it contains complex organic compounds different than those encountered on Earth \u2014 as well as microscopic diamonds and presolar grains that formed long before the solar system came into existence.\u00a0 Mass 5.2kg. It is estimated to be about 4.5 billion years old, which is roughly as old as the Solar System. However, it contains something older still<\/p>\n

On Monday 29 September 1969 at 22:03 the most destructive earthquake in the history of South Africa struck the Boland area. \u00a0\u00a0The original shock measured 6.3 on the Richer scale, which is equivalent to the explosion of 15 kilotons of TNT and was felt as far as Durban, 1175km. from Ceres. \u00a0How did people experience such a traumatic event ?<\/p>\n

The transport rider was a trader who transported goods by wagon into the interior in order to sell or barter the goods.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>Transport Riders provided valuable services to remote communities, white and black.\u00a0 The discovery of diamonds (1867) and gold (1881) resulted in a huge rush of diggers, businessmen and transport riders to the diamond fields of Kimberley and the gold fields of the Witwatersrand, some 1000km from the Cape Town harbour, causing an extraordinarily high demand for vehicles.\u00a0\u00a0 This enabled the wagon manufacturers of Paarl and Wellington to flourish.<\/p>\n
